About CCDA

Who is CCDA?

CCDA is a non-profit trade association, founded in 1987, dedicated to the education and training of community development professionals and the promotion of the community development industry within the state. Our members work for municipal governments, state government, non-profits, and for-profit professional service firms and consultants. On a daily basis, most of our members are concerned with the nitty gritty details of implementing various community development programs – everything from constructing or rehabbing affordable housing to funding vital public services to building major infrastructure projects. Most of these programs are funded with federal CDBG dollars and funds from other federal programs, such as HOME, HOPWA, and ESG.

What is CDBG?

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program was established by the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. The program provides annual grants on a formula basis to entitled cities and towns (there are 22 in Connecticut) to develop viable communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, principally for low- and moderate-income persons. Grants are available to smaller towns in Connecticut through the State Department of Economic and Community Development Small Cities Program.

What does CCDA do?

Our members benefit from updates they receive from us on state and federal policies and legislation, from technical workshops we host or sponsor on our own or in conjunction with other groups around the state, and from our coordination with other public, private and non-profit organizations on issues relevant to the implementation of our community development programs. We host:

  • a legislative breakfast each year at the Capitol in Hartford,
  • the statewide celebration of National Community Development Week each April, and
  • an annual meeting on a topic of interest or concern for our members
